About Event

Tokenisation and stablecoin-based payment systems are moving from concept to real pilots and early deployments across banking, capital markets, and payments. Students increasingly hear about “on-chain money”, but rarely get a clear view of how large institutions are actually experimenting with and rolling out these capabilities.

In this 60-minute session, speakers from Citi and JPMorgan Kinexys will walk through how tokenised money and assets work in practice, where banks see real value, and what still stands in the way of large-scale adoption. You will see how tokenisation applies not just to cash, but to deposits, securities, collateral, and—over time—to equities and structured products.

We will also zoom out to the longer-term vision for a fully tokenised financial industry: what it would take to move from isolated pilots to interconnected, on-chain capital markets infrastructure, and how this could reshape issuance, trading, settlement, and servicing.

What we’ll cover

  • Clear, practical definitions of tokenisation, stablecoins, and tokenised deposits, with a focus on how money and financial assets can be represented on-chain.

  • How settlement and reconciliation may change with stablecoins and on-chain FX, including atomic settlement, 24/7 funding, and intraday liquidity management.

  • How global banks think about “production-ready” tokenisation and payment systems: controls, resilience, governance, and operating models.

  • Key challenges preventing scale today: interoperability between platforms, legal certainty around tokenised claims, and regulatory/compliance expectations in the UK and globally.

  • The institutional roadmap: from cash-like instruments to tokenised securities and complex structured products settling natively on-chain.

Panel: Stablecoins vs Tokenised Deposits vs Traditional Rails

A structured comparison you can actually use:

  • Money types and claims: who owes you what, and how redemption works across different instruments.

  • Settlement models: atomic vs message-based settlement, and what settlement finality really means for tokenised equities and securities.

  • Liquidity and treasury: 24/7 payments, intraday liquidity, and operational cut-offs.

  • Compliance and risk: AML, sanctions screening, fraud, and operational resilience in tokenised systems.

  • High-impact use cases: cross-border corporate payments, treasury sweeps, on-chain settlement, programmable payouts, and settlement of tokenised securities and structured products.

  • The long view: what needs to happen—technically, legally, and operationally—for tokenisation to extend across the full lifecycle of financial instruments.

Speakers from Citi and JPMorgan Kinexys will share where they see near-term adoption, which use cases are getting traction first, and what needs to change for tokenisation and stablecoin payments to scale across the industry.

Who should attend

  • Students curious about digital assets beyond trading and speculation.

  • Those considering careers in banking (payments, markets, operations), fintech, policy/regulation, risk, or law.

  • Anyone who wants a structured, high-signal primer on tokenisation, stablecoin payments, and the institutional roadmap for tokenised securities and financial products.

This event is open to everyone, including non-LSE students.
