Civil Society Roundtable on Rights of Nature
Co-hosted by GARN, WECAN, and forNature, this roundtable is a strategy meeting that will bring together civil society groups for a focused discussion toward a Universal Declaration on the Rights of Nature.
This will be an informal strategy conversation rather than a general conversation about the Rights of Nature, emphasizing updates from advocates, identifying shared priorities, and determining opportunities for collaboration to advance the Universal Declaration.
The Rights of Nature movement continues to grow globally, with frontline communities, Indigenous peoples, legal advocates, scientists, and civil society organizations advancing approaches that recognize nature's inherent rights and strengthen protections for ecosystems and communities.
Building on this growing movement, there is momentum to advance international recognition of the Rights of Nature through the United Nations and other international forums for a Universal Declaration on the Rights of Nature. COP31 provides an important opportunity for civil society groups engaged in this vision to come together, assess the current landscape, and discuss how we can work collectively to advance a Universal Declaration on the Rights of Nature.
This civil society roundtable will take place in the formal UNFCCC venue. Blue Zone access requires UNFCCC accreditation.
