This press conference will highlight the critical role of Asian financial institutions in ensuring responsible cross-border energy transition financing. With large-scale projects such as Mekong hydropower advancing without robust cumulative and transboundary impact assessments, affected communities in Thailand and Lao PDR continue to face livelihood losses, ecological disruption, and limited access to remedy. The session will feature testimonies from frontline communities, evidence from civil society, and analysis against international standards such as the Equator Principles and IFC Performance Standards. It will also present concrete demands for responsible lending and disclosure, underscoring the accountability of financial institutions in driving a just energy transition.
