OPEN OWL @ THE PLAYGROUND #5
(This non-event is run by Happy Town - a group that hosts regular and affordable ways to hang out. To check out more, visit our Happy Town Luma calendar.)
Welcome to the Open Owl! this will be the last one until the spring!
A message from the host, Holly:
"At 10 years old, I wrote and performed a poem at a camp talent show. Not to brag, but there were some tears shed in the audience. I was quite a shy kid, but performing that poem felt...special.
As a teenager, I went to an arts high school for literary arts. The highlights of the school year were always the coffeehouses: events planned by and for us lit students to share our writing with our friends and families. Despite dealing with a lot of personal struggles at the time, I signed up to perform at nearly every single one. Reading those angsty poems out loud to people just felt...cathartic.
Inspired by those experiences, as well as the amazing community of talented writers and artists we have at Happy Town, I decided to start the Open Owl (with the help of Adam, of course!). It just felt...right!
I welcome you to participate, no matter how nervous or unprepared you feel. I am here to cheer you on!"
The Open Owl is like an open mic, but it takes place at the owl, which doubles as a stage.
Do you like jamming out on guitar, or writing poetry?
Are you looking for a low-stakes place to try out your new stand-up routine?
Consider performing at the Open Owl in front of our supportive Happy Town community. We would love to have you!
Got a performance in mind?
Let us know when you register for the event. Alternatively, there will be time near the end of the event for anyone to come up and try performing.
Let’s all remember to be respectful of the space so that we can come back again and again! This means no littering or abusing the playground equipment. This will also be a dry event.
Just bring yourself and (maybe) something to perform!
See you there for the final Owl of 2026!!!
