Collective Imagination Seed Swap: The Map Has no Borders
The Map Has No Borders starts from a simple premise: that within each of us there lives a map of home, held in the body, woven into memory, carried in our ancestors' stories. For those of us who have moved, been moved, or carry multiple places inside us, that map can be complicated, contradictory, even painful. Even for those without a diaspora background these maps are rarely straightforward.
What to expect
This session is an invitation to look at what emerges when we drop what we believe we already know about our story, and allow ourselves to access deeper, archetypal layers of our experience. We will work with a guided visualisation, a simple mapping exercise and group sharing.
What to bring
📓 a notebook
📃 a large piece of paper (A3 or larger)
and any drawing materials you would like to play with
Featuring:
Inez Aponte
Inez is a performance storyteller and facilitator with over 25 years of experience working at the intersection of oral tradition, embodied practice, and community imagination. Inez's facilitation work includes Tales to Live By, an intergenerational participatory arts project bringing story and play into communities navigating isolation and mental health challenges, and many years working with displaced people and refugees through story-based practice. Inez is currently developing The Map Has No Borders — restorying workshops exploring identity and belonging through creative mapping, myth, and embodied practice, specifically focused on diaspora, migrant, and mixed heritage communities.
Inez's wider practice spans training changemakers, activists, and NGO workers to communicate with authenticity and power, working with organisations including WWF, the British Council, Natural England, and Schumacher College. Inez's solo show Un|Earthed — an Arts Council funded work combining Surinamese folklore with Inez's own family's history of colonisation and displacement — has toured internationally and continues to seed conversations about belonging, identity, and what it means to carry multiple worlds inside you.
