About Event

Please join us at Van Alen for a conversation hosted by Suzanne Lettieri and Anya Sirota, editors of Junior Architects: New Paradigms in Design Education.

This new publication examines the pursuit of equity in architecture and design education in the United States amid widening political divides around race and class. Bringing together contributors to the book and leaders of local enrichment programs, the event will take stock of this work, its histories and its ambitions, and ask where it might go next. It is an opportunity to reconnect, reflect, and consider how more equitable pathways into architecture and design might continue to be built.

The editors will be in conversation with participants Milton S. F. Curry, Erin Pellegrino, and Quilian Riano

Milton S. F. Curry is Professor of Architecture and Senior Associate Dean at Cornell University’s College of Architecture, Art, and Planning. His work focuses on urban development and cultural theory in the Americas.

Erin Pellegrino is a registered architect, strategist, and educator committed to transforming the architecture profession. She co-founded Out of Architecture, a career resource community and talent agency supporting architects transitioning beyond traditional practice, and co-authored Out of Architecture: The Value of Architects Beyond Traditional Practice.

Quilian Riano is Dean of Pratt Institute’s School of Architecture and Vice President for Architecture at the Architectural League of New York. He founded DSGN AGNC, a studio exploring cooperative design in architecture, urbanism, landscapes, and art.
