About Event

Join the California Academy of Sciences' Center for Biodiversity and Community Science (CBCS) for a fun and educational bioblitz in Glen Park during San Francisco Climate Week! On Saturday, April 26th, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, we'll be exploring the park's diverse habitats and documenting the plants and animals we find using iNaturalist.

This event is part of the global City Nature Challenge, a friendly competition to see which cities can record the most biodiversity. By participating, you'll contribute valuable data to climate and ecological research, helping us understand and protect our urban ecosystems.

Whether you're a seasoned naturalist or just curious about the nature in your neighborhood, this event is for you! We'll provide guidance on using iNaturalist and help you identify the species you discover.

Lunch will be provided, so come prepared to learn, explore, and connect with nature in Glen Park. Let's work together to document Glen Park's biodiversity and make a difference for our planet!

About the City Nature Challenge:

The City Nature Challenge (CNC) is an annual, global bioblitz at the end of April, where cities around the world engage in a friendly competition to document urban biodiversity. Over four days, participants use iNaturalist to record observations of wild plants, animals, and fungi, showcasing the incredible variety of life found in and around our cities.

The CNC is more than just a competition; it's a powerful tool for community engagement and scientific data collection. By participating, you contribute to a growing database of biodiversity information that helps researchers, conservationists, and city planners understand and protect urban ecosystems.

Last year's global City Nature Challenge was a resounding success, with over:

  • 2.4 million observations recorded

  • 64,000 species documented

  • 83,000 participants from around the world

This year, we invite you to join the global effort and discover the nature in your own backyard! Whether you're a seasoned naturalist or just curious about the world around you, the City Nature Challenge offers a fun and rewarding way to connect with nature and contribute to scientific discovery. The City Nature Challenge is Organized by the California Academy of Sciences and the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County.

Please come with the iNaturalist application downloaded on your mobile device.
