How buyers assess quality and delivery risk in biochar projects
CDR.fyi data shows that only 25-50% of forecast biochar credits make it to issuance in the expected year, and buyers are increasingly asking "will this project actually deliver?" before price or quality even enter the conversation. As a result, buyers are screening projects earlier and more rigorously to avoid potential credit shortfalls. Independent ratings offer a useful signal to help buyers separate projects that can substantiate delivery from those that can't.
Join BeZero, Tide, Carboneers and A Healthier Earth for a discussion on what's driving this shift: how a major buyer evaluates biochar projects at scale, and what developers can do to de-risk and differentiate their projects, as large SBTi-aligned companies will be required to start addressing some of their ongoing emissions through removals from 2035.
You'll leave with a clearer view of how buyers are evaluating biochar projects today, and what it takes for developers to earn trust and stand out in a crowded market.
