About Event

Team updates often live in Slack threads, standup channels, or scattered weekly check-ins. That works in the moment, but it quickly becomes hard to answer simple questions: What shipped this week? What is blocked? Who needs follow-up? What should leadership know?

In this hands-on Bolt Premium customer workshop, we'll build a B2B internal tool that turns Slack updates into a structured weekly recap. Instead of manually reading through every message, the app will pull updates from a team channel, remove noise, and summarize the important details into a clean action plan.

What we're building:

A Slack Weekly Team Update Generator. Users will be able to choose a Slack channel and date range, retrieve relevant updates, and generate a recap organized into clear sections: executive summary, wins, in-progress work, blockers, action items, and follow-ups by owner.

The preferred version will use Slack MCP to search and retrieve relevant messages. We'll also cover the Slack Web API fallback using conversations.history, so attendees understand how the same workflow can be implemented as a traditional app integration.

Outcomes:

By the end of this workshop, you'll understand:

  • How to design a useful internal tool around a real Slack workflow.

  • How Slack MCP can help AI-powered apps search and retrieve workspace context.

  • How the Slack Web API can fetch channel messages for a specific channel and date range.

  • How to design around a dedicated updates channel to keep the workflow reliable.

  • How to filter messages by date range and remove bot noise or irrelevant posts.

  • How to group updates by person, project, blocker, or action item.

  • How to ask AI for structured summaries instead of generic recaps.

  • How to generate a clean weekly update page or action list from raw messages.

Skills:

Slack MCP, Slack Web API, channel history retrieval, date range filtering, message normalization, AI summarization, structured outputs, internal tool design

Difficulty: Advanced
