Tokens of Faith — conviction, optimisation, and prioritisation in AI for Science
Join Nucleate UK for this invite-only kick off pre-summit event.
Are our convictions now merely token?
Most conversations about AI are about what it can do next. We’d like to figure out what we’ve stopped asking.
In a world where efficiency has become its own justification, and as AI moves deeper into the natural and physical sciences, the question of what we are optimising for keeps getting deferred. The beliefs researchers hold about their own work are slowly getting lost in a flurry of engineered advancements and short-term wins.
The evening before the AI for Science Summit, we’re asking whether conviction can be brought back into research, and what that would actually take.
What we we are asking
What are we losing by indexing on AI solutionism, and which capabilities are being deprioritised right now?
What should we build first in the natural and physical sciences?
What technology, if it were developed in the next two years, would make today’s AI obsolete?
How will our values for research change as AI goes further into it?
The evening
A salon, with drinks, canapés, and discussion prompts scattered across the tables.

This event is part of the AI for Science Summit 2026, hosted in collaboration with Conception X, Turing Innovation Catalyst Manchester and ARIA.
We are in the midst of a period of extraordinary change and discovery- with the frontier of scientific possibility seemingly shifting week to week. New technologies are emerging which have the potential to deliver extraordinary impact- for human health, climate and the planet. They also have limits and present significant risks. How we translate these opportunities into impact matters.
Join a room of early- career scientists, PhD researchers and Founders to understand the concrete steps, structures and pathways available to turn ambitious research into companies and breakthroughs that matter, and that deliver positively for humans and the planet.
See live Demos from the founders and scientists building at the frontier, including Dave Lewis (ARIA), Liz Scott MBE (Turing Innovation Catalyst), Erwann Le Lannou (Sov AI), Agata Laydon (Google DeepMind), Zhonghua Zheng (University of Manchester), Edith-Clare Hall (ARIA), Osama Ahmed (Qronon), Henry Lee (Cultivarium), Satnam Surae (Twig Bio), Gatleen Bhambra (Mater-AI), Adam Wu (AminoAnalytica ), Harry Rickerby (BrieflyBio), Scott Riggs (Find What Matters), Alice Pettitt (ARIA), Carrie Baptist (Conception X), Misha Khan (Turing Innovation Catalyst), & Liv Ash (Conception X) - with more to be announced.
