VCN #34: Toolsmith - Build Your Own MCP Server - Open Registration
Build your own MCP server. Ship three tools agent callable.
MCP is the layer your agent reaches for when it needs to do something. Read a file. Send a message. Query your database. The protocol shipped in November 2024, hit 2025-06-18 revision, and is now governed by the AAIF under the Linux Foundation. Anthropic donated it. Cloudflare, Block, Atlassian, MongoDB ship production servers on it. And yet — Cloudflare's April 2026 agent-readiness study found fewer than 15 sites publish an MCP Server Card. The supply side is nearly empty.
VCN #34: Toolsmith is a builder night for the people closing that gap. The premise: by 10pm, your repo is an MCP server. Three of your tools are agent callable. Live.
Format:
The six-line hello world. FastMCP
add(a, b)running over stdio. The minimum legal MCP server. Booted in 90 seconds. From stdio to Streamable HTTP. Same server, production transport, behind ngrok. The one pivot that takes a demo to a deployable.
Bring your own tools. Hands-on hour. We wire three of your existing functions into the server. Whatever your repo already does, agents can now call.
The OAuth handshake. RFC 9728,
/.well-known/oauth-protected-resource. The thing you skip in dev and pay for in prod.
Framework-side: FastMCP if you're starting fresh, fastapi_mcp if you have an existing FastAPI app. Both walked through. Neither evangelized.
Builders only. Bring a laptop, bring a repo you already ship.
Doors 7pm. Talks 7:30. Frontier Tower Floor 9.
Hosted by Vibe Coding Nights: Rayyan Zahid (Immersive Commons), Michalis Vasileiadis (Otto / GSD2.0), Eric Mockler (logistics, F11 Health & Longevity), Devinder Sodhi (Tower Lead, Frontier Tower).
RSVP if your agent needs to actually do anything.
