Second Nature | Oxford All-Female Hackathon
"We are, moment by moment, doing less sensing, navigating, remembering, walking, choosing, and attending."
Melanie Challenger, Aeon
One thing is clear in technology today: simplicity and ease increasingly mean replacing functions once performed by our senses, our muscles, our memory, and our minds.
Navigating a city once meant following directions, memorising routes, and reading maps. Now, it means following a blue arrow on a screen.
Before computers, hundreds of tiny, coordinated movements were required to bring words to the page. Now, an algorithm can generate them at the click of a button.
More and more of what we do is being handed over to machines.
Our October hackathon begins from a different premise.
Instead of creating stand-ins for the human body, we’re asking you to build something that enhances it.
What if technology didn’t replace what we can do, but helped us to do more?
This is the question we need you to answer.
The right people will be watching.
If you move fast, press enter.
