My Father's Journey: Film Screening & Director Q&A
MY FATHER'S JOURNEY
Preserving Culture: Memory, Media & Heritage
Preserving a culture in a changing world, and rediscovering a father along the way.
Join us for a special screening of My Father's Journey, a documentary by Chinese-Canadian filmmaker Xiaodan He, followed by a conversation with the director and an audience Q&A.
Set in Yunnan, China, the film explores family, memory, and the preservation of Naxi cultural heritage, offering an intimate reflection on the relationship between personal histories and cultural traditions.
The documentary has been presented at international film festivals, including Rendez-vous Québec Cinéma and the International Festival of Films on Art in Montreal.
Through the screening and discussion, we invite audiences to reflect on different approaches to cultural preservation—from documentary filmmaking and personal storytelling to archives, community practices, and the transmission of cultural knowledge across generations.
