About Event

Steven Haken is Managing Director of Odelle Technology, a UK and France-based health economics and market access consultancy operating across Europe, Australia, and North America.

He is a European market access and reimbursement strategist specialising in translating medical innovation into sustainable healthcare adoption.

For more than two decades, Steven has secured and structured reimbursement pathways across the UK and EU for biotechnology therapeutics, in vitro diagnostics, medical devices, and digital health technologies.

His work integrates clinical value with rigorous health economic modelling, coding architecture, HTA strategy, and real-world implementation, ensuring that innovation is not only approved but funded and adopted.

What we'll cover

This session will begin with a discussion of how to create the Value Analysis Tool, a structured framework that translates clinical benefit into hospital-level economic impact. It can and is used across Australia and the EU, UK.

In Europe, the CE mark is a regulatory requirement, not a commercial guarantee. Adoption depends on whether a device improves contribution margins within DRG systems, aligns with national HTA logic, and fits procurement realities.

We'll deep dive into:

  • How to determine where your device fits within European reimbursement systems (DRG, outpatient tariff, capital, add-on payment, innovation pathway)

  • How to conduct a practical reimbursement analysis before market entry

  • The difference between regulatory approval and funded adoption

  • UK, Germany (DRG/NUB), France, Spain, Poland, Netherlands, concrete entry routes and decision-makers

  • What evidence is required for coding, funding inclusion, or hospital-level adoption

  • Why many devices stall despite strong clinical data and how to avoid that trap

About the Virtual Global Expert Program

Getting time with the right expert at the right moment can change the trajectory of a company. We're making that easier to access across WA.

This program connects WA innovators directly with international experts — people who have built companies, raised capital, navigated regulatory pathways, and opened international markets in the sectors you're working in.

Five themed virtual sessions with leading global practitioners, plus limited 1:1 office hours available to deep dive further.

Presented by the WA Life Sciences Innovation Hub, with the support of the Government of Western Australia Department of Energy and Economic Diversification.
