About Event

If you have a documentary project, this session is for you! Catapult Film Fund will reopen its grant opportunities in 2027, and now is the perfect time to get prepared.

With the goal of supporting more filmmakers across Latin America and the Caribbean, VC is hosting this event with Catapult Film Fund to share more about their funding opportunities with the region’s documentary community.

Catapult Film Fund supports nonfiction filmmakers with funding during the early stages of short & feature development, as well as mentorship and guidance to help them create distinctive films centered on compelling stories with a strong cinematic vision.

During this event, you’ll have the opportunity to ask the guests questions directly and learn more about the types of stories they support, what they look for in applications, the grants they offer, the areas where they can support projects, and much more.

This is your opportunity to connect with them and get answers to all your questions about the funding opportunities available.

Meet our special guests from the Catapult Film Fund team:

Amanda Arya, Development Strategist. She is a producer and creative executive who most recently worked on the producing team of Netflix’s documentary series Turning Point: The American Experiment (released June 2026), with director Brian Knappenberger’s Luminant Media and Playtone. Previously, she spent nearly a decade at Participant Media, most recently serving as Senior Director of Documentary, where she led new nonfiction projects. During her time at Participant, she worked on award-winning titles such as All the Beauty and the Bloodshed, Descendant, and American Factory. In 2022, Arya was recognized by Business Insider as one of its Rising Stars of Entertainment.

Donna Kozloskie, Programs Consultant. She is a media curator and cultural critic. Her career began as a creative producer on a feature-length experimental documentary which resides in the permanent collection of MoMA (NYC). Most recently she was a Programming Director at the Athena Film Festival of Barnard College in addition to her many gigs as a consultant in the documentary industry (Sundance Film Festival, POV, IDA, Catapult FIlm Fund, True/False and others). Her book on '90s music & the rise of digital storytelling, “33 ⅓: Cat Power’s Moon Pix,” was published by Bloomsbury. As an instructor at the Missouri School of Journalism, Donna guides, and learns from, the next generation of media makers.

Learn which opportunities will reopen in 2027:

  • The Catapult Development Grant: For those based in Latam and the Caribbean. Provides early-stage support to documentary filmmakers when funding is often hardest to find. Catapult has two funding cycles per year, with application deadlines in the winter and summer. In 2026, they offered fifteen (15) grants of up to $25,000 USD to filmmakers developing a documentary feature or short.

  • The Catapult & True/False Rough Cut Retreat: For those based in Latam and the Caribbean. At the height of summer, when filmmakers are buried in the edit suite, our Rough Cut Retreat offers a one-of-a-kind, immersive mentorship experience.

  • Catapult Research Grant: This intensive program offers a $10,000 USD grant and dedicated mentorship to U.S.-based filmmakers in the early conception stage of a documentary feature or short. If you’re a Latin American producer working on a co-production with the U.S., this grant may be of interest to you.
