Finding Synchronicity: An Election Night Living Room Conversation
However election night goes, you don't have to spend it alone with a screen.
Physicist and author Sky Nelson-Isaacs has spent many election cycles seeking out people who see the world differently — not to win the argument, but to stay curious through it. Drawing on his forthcoming book The Synchronicity Path, he brings a framework called SEW — Style, Emotions, Wholeness — for staying grounded in exactly the moments that push us toward taking sides. He'll also draw on his previous books to illustrate how synchronicity shows up in our lives to help us grow, heal, and learn, and how it can be a key ally in navigating polarizing situations.
He's joined in conversation by Joan Blades, a mediator by training and a Berkeley neighbor, who co-founded MoveOn.org and MomsRising and then went on to co-found Living Room Conversations, a structured listening practice good for deepening thinking about whatever topic chosen and talking across differences. Respect, curiosity and seeing everyone’s humanity is at the heart of these conversations.
The evening will be less a talk than a room thinking out loud together. Sky will also walk the room through SEW and give you a chance to apply it.
Expect an honest conversation, a glass of wine, and a room full of people trying to hold the same thing at once. You'll leave with something you can use the next morning, whether in a tense conversation, a difficult relationship, or a community you're trying to change.
All viewpoints welcome.
