Book launch: The gender-neutral constitution
A lunch, a launch, and a question worth sitting with: what would the constitution look like if it spoke to everyone?
The German Basic Law — the Grundgesetz — is one of the most admired constitutions in the world. Built on the principles of rule of law, democracy, and human dignity, it has shaped German society for over 75 years.
Grundgesetzt is an experiment in language and law. It asks a simple but generative question: what if the constitution were written in gender-inclusive language? Starting from the mandate of Article 3 (2) GG — which calls on the state to actively promote equality — the project rewrites the Basic Law using gender-fair forms, as an invitation to imagine what full inclusion in constitutional language could look like.
Join me for a book launch lunch party to talk about the project, explore the ideas behind it, and reflect on the relationship between language, law, and equality.
There will be food, good conversation, and plenty of room for different perspectives.
All are welcome.
