Will Quantum Computing Destroy Crypto?

Quantum computing is often cited as the one technology that could, in theory, compromise today’s blockchain security models.

But how real is that risk, and how worried should we actually be?

At our February CryptoMondays London, we’re cutting through the noise to unpack what quantum computing really means for crypto. No scare tactics, no marketing spin - just an open, accessible conversation about what’s realistic, what’s still theoretical, and what people in the space are already doing about it.

We’ll touch on:

  • What quantum computing actually is (no maths degree required)

  • Which parts of blockchain security could be affected - and which probably won’t

  • Timelines: what matters now vs what’s still a long way off

  • How the industry is thinking about a post-quantum future

Keynote: Quantum vs Blockchain: Existential Threat or Industry Myth? Join us for an enlightening keynote speech from Chunteng Xiao, who will explore the impact of quantum computing on blockchain: what the potential risks are to cryptographic systems, how it is shaping the industry and what steps are being taken, as well as Nervos CKB's approach to quantum resistance.

Speakers

Keynote Speaker: Chunteng Xiao, Fullstack blockchain developer (Nervos CKB) & Researcher. Chunteng Xiao is a fullstack blockchain engineer focused on DeFi protocols, infrastructure and developer tooling. Chunteng has led cross‑architecture rewrites (EVM → UTXO) and shipped production Rust/TypeScript systems spanning smart contracts (EVM, CKB, Solana), backend services, dApps, and developer tooling.

Panellists

Paul-Angus Bark, CEO and Founder of Cointrol Limited: Paul has been in the blockchain industry for over seven years, starting his career at Archax as a business analyst, and working his way up to Product Team Lead and Blockchain subject matter expert. Paul's current project is creating a truly decentralised, gasless wallet, shifting from zero-knowledge proofs to post-quantum cryptography.

Dr Christina Yan Zhang, CEO, The Metaverse Institute: Dr Christina Yan Zhang is an award-winning innovative leader with 20+ years working across UN, governments, universities and corporates. From advising UK parliament to working alongside the 73rd President of the UN General Assembly, she's a pioneer in the metaverse even before it became trendy. Completed a PhD on digital twins in 2012, and now co-chairs the UN ITU Taskgroup on pre-standardization for the Citiverse, setting up international standards using AI, digital twins, web3 etc to develop a People-centred, Planet-Friendly Digital Future for 8bn people in the world.

JB Benjamin, CEO and Founder, Kryotech Ltd: JB Benjamin leads research into post-quantum encryption and decentralised application security at Kryotech Ltd. He created and launched the world's first consumer post-quantum e2ee, encrypted messenger, Vox Messenger. A Professional Member of the British Computer Society and ex-Army, JB brings over a decade of experience spanning blockchain architecture, cryptography, and cybersecurity including prior service as CISO at REAP Technologies Ltd. (XPRIZE Alum). His current work focuses on building quantum-resistant frameworks to future-proof digital assets and Web3 infrastructure. Based in the UK, he is a recognised voice at the intersection of emerging cryptographic threats and practical blockchain defence strategies.

🧡 Powered by our sponsors

Nervos: Nervos CKB is an interoperable open-source Layer 1 blockchain built around a flexibility-first approach. By combining Proof of Work, programmable UTXOs, and a RISC-V VM, it provides a durable foundation that can adapt to new technologies - such as quantum computing - without needing changes to the core protocol. Its main goal is to enable developer freedom and long-term innovation, without compromising first principles.

Vault12 - Vault12 is the pioneer in crypto inheritance management, helping everyday people set up legacy contacts for their bitcoin and ethereum crypto wallets.

CUDOS - A fusion of cloud computing and blockchain technology, meticulously designed for pioneers in AI, the Metaverse, High-Performance Computing (HPC), and Web3 domains
