AI Literacy & Safety for Public Accountants

​A high-level, practical primer on how AI is being used in professional practice, core AI skills to develop, what can go wrong, and how accountants are thinking about AI usage policies, governance, and professional responsibility.

​On governance, we’ll look at existing IFAC guidance and ethics expectations that already apply to technology use, and map that onto everyday AI usage in practice, as well as the accounting profession’s public-interest role in AI safety into the future.

​We’ll also explore how the profession could coordinate alongside government guardrails through verifiable controls (def/acc).

​AI automates tasks and reallocates work, so we’ll discuss how people can maintain income and economic agency through the transition, and how our public-interest obligations interact with commercial incentives.

​This session is aimed at professional public accountants who want to engage seriously with AI from a governance, risk, and career growth perspective, without hype or vendor-driven narratives.

This session shares my current learnings and research in AI safety and upskilling. I’m not positioning myself as an expert in this field yet. The aim is to open informed discussion, invite challenge, and build understanding collectively as my profession engages with this space.
