About Event

AI is already in your students' hands. This workshop helps you put it to work in your classroom - thoughtfully, practically, and on your terms.

What to expect

Dr Simon McCallum (Victoria University of Wellington) opens with how collaborative work with AI is reshaping what's possible in education - drawing on his research in AI and assessment, and his background at the University of Otago.

Benny Pan teaches Chemistry and Physics at Rototuna Senior High School in Hamilton. He completed a Master's in AI assisted Higher-order Thinking at AcademyEX in 2026, researching AI-augmented critical thinking in NCEA science. Through the Asia-Europe Foundation's EmpowerEd program, Benny has trained 38 educators across 18 countries in AI integration for teaching. He will guide you through hands-on AI practice relevant to your teaching.

You'll leave with practical approaches you can use in Term 2.

This workshop is for you if:

  • You teach science at the secondary level (Y7-13)

  • You're curious about AI but unsure where to start - or ready to go deeper

  • You want to see what AI collaboration actually looks like in a science context

What to bring

  • A laptop or tablet

  • An open mind

During registration, we'll ask what topics you're most interested in exploring - whether that's AI in assessment, lesson planning, student use, or something specific to your subject area. I will do my best to tailor the workshop to your needs.
