Miaoxin is a Sydney‑based Chinese‑Australian jazz singer‑songwriter. With 11 years immersed in jazz, she has trained under several accomplished jazz vocalists, including Greta Matassa, while remaining predominantly self-taught.
Her music is rooted in the jazz tradition while exploring the possibilities between improvisation, voice, and personal expression. She is particularly drawn to overlooked repertoire and unconventional musical languages, continually exploring new ways to reinterpret familiar jazz works through a contemporary perspective.
In May 2025, as part of International Jazz Day, Miaoxin was interviewed by SBS, highlighting her work and perspective as a jazz artist in Sydney. As a cross-cultural vocalist, she also re‑imagines classic standards by writing original Chinese lyrics for them, engaging in creative reinterpretation.
Collaborating regularly with Eric Tsai over the past three years in over ten performances, the two share remarkable musical chemistry. They craft unique musical conversations during performances and intuitively support one another on‑stage, which gives rise to the title of this show, Another Take.
Eric Tsai is a Sydney-based jazz guitarist, composer, educator, multi-instrumentalist and builder of his own personal jazz branding with over 3,000 followers. Trained in the Jazz program at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and mentored by Stefano Rocco, Carl Dewhurst, he has sculpted his playing style into one that is mature, poised yet full of graceful surprises.
His passion for music extends far beyond the guitar; proficient across violin, bass and drums, he lets it permeate every facet of his craft. Active in numerous live performances across Sydney, he does not confine himself to the classic‑jazz genre, nor is he limited solely to the role of a performer.
For his own released album, he worked as a mixer, singer‑songwriter and arranger, weaving abundant jazzy elements into the work. These layers lend the record compelling depth, underpinned by solid harmonic foundations. More than merely a technical practitioner, he is an artist guided by refined humane sensibility and aesthetic vision, as evidenced both on‑stage and off‑stage.
