About Event

Join us for a free end-of-summer potluck picnic at Rocky Point Park with beginner-friendly historic dancing, games, food, and good company!

We’re Nocturne Gala, a Vancouver-based historic dance community organizing beginner-friendly dance workshops, social gatherings, and costume balls.

We want to celebrate the end of summer with a free community potluck picnic at Rocky Point Park, with historic dancing, games, good vibes, and good company.

📆 Friday, September 11, 2026
🕰️ 6:00 PM
📍 Rocky Point Park, Port Moody
🎟️ Free and open to everyone. Walk-ins welcome!

WHAT WE’LL BE DOING

We’ll have a relaxed potluck picnic, teach several historic social dances, and spend the evening dancing, chatting, playing games, snacking, and enjoying one of the last summer evenings together.

No previous dance experience is needed, and you don’t need to bring a partner. We’ll teach everything there.

DANCES WE’LL LEARN

We’re planning to dance:

  • La Chapelloise

  • Minuet (If you attended the Spring Ball in Vancouver this May, you already know this one)

  • Circassian Circle

  • Waterloo Promenade

We’ll walk everyone through the dances first, so complete beginners are very welcome.

WHAT TO WEAR

Think cute end-of-summer picnic.

Dresses, skirts, linen shirts, vests, vintage-inspired outfits, or simply something you feel good dancing in. Historic clothing is always welcome, but absolutely not required.

WHAT TO BRING

Bring a picnic blanket and something you’d like to share with the group.

Food, snacks, drinks, cards, lawn games, acoustic instruments, or anything else that feels right for a relaxed evening in the park are all welcome.

WHO IS NOCTURNE GALA?

Nocturne Gala creates historic dance experiences where people can learn social dances, dress beautifully, meet new people, and enjoy something a little different from a typical night out.

This May, we hosted our Spring Ball in Vancouver, with rehearsals leading up to the event and an evening of dancing, live music, costumes, and socializing.

And if this picnic makes you want to do more historic dancing, our next Vancouver event is the Celestial Winter Masquerade on December 18.

Before the ball, we’ll be holding a series of dance rehearsals where guests can learn the dances, meet other attendees, and get comfortable before the main event. Then on December 18, everyone comes together beautifully dressed for the ball itself.

Bring some food, bring a friend, and come dance with us as we say goodbye to summer. 💫
