When AI Runs the Economy: What Happens to Work, Business, and Democracy?
Everyone's talking about AI transforming the economy. Fine. But what does that actually mean on the ground?
We're skipping the "AI will change everything!" takes and focusing on the practical questions:
The messy transition: Automation doesn't happen overnight. Some sectors move fast, others drag. How do real people and real companies navigate the gap years? What does partially-automated look like, and why should we care about the timing?
New organizational forms: When companies restructure around AI capabilities, what does that org chart look like? How do existing laws handle entities that aren't quite companies and aren't quite algorithms? What happens when your boss is a model?
Democratic control of production: Let's say AI gets good enough to handle supply chains, manufacturing, and distribution. Someone still chooses what gets prioritized. Is it affordable housing or luxury goods? Who makes that call in a democracy, and through what mechanism?
