About Event

Join us for an afternoon of community, connection, and hands‑on stewardship at the Beacon Food Forest — one of the nation’s largest public food forests and a thriving ecosystem that nourishes both people and wildlife. This event is a great way to learn about urban permaculture, meet fellow volunteers, and support a space rooted in food equity and sustainable growing practices.

What to expect

We’ll kick off the afternoon with a guided tour of the forest to learn about its history, design, and community impact. Afterward, we’ll transition into garden tasks. Early spring typically involves weeding, planting, and general bed maintenance. Tasks may vary depending on weather and seasonal needs, but all experience and ability levels are welcome.
This is an outdoor, hands‑on volunteer event. Expect to move around, get a little dirty, and spend time in the sun.

Can't make it for the whole time? Feel free to drop in when you can! And if you're interested in supporting Beacon Food Forest with a donation, you can do so here.

What to Bring

* Water, snacks, and sunscreen
* Garden gloves (optional — Beacon Food Forest will have some available, though they may be well‑loved)
* Comfortable outdoor clothing and closed‑toe shoes
* Layers recommended depending on weather - this event is rain or shine!
All other tools and supplies will be provided.

Meeting Point & Parking

We’ll meet at the gathering plaza at 12 PM, marked by a rainbow tent on the site map.
Parking is available:
* In the small lot on S Dakota St.
* Along nearby neighborhood streets
The Beacon Food Forest is easy to find via Google or Apple Maps.

Accessibility & Facilities
This event takes place outdoors on natural terrain. Some areas may be uneven. Please reach out with any accessibility needs!

About Seattle Women and Climate Community (SWACC): We are a local group of climate-minded organizers (formerly affiliated with Women and Climate), who bring women and non-binary climate-curious individuals together to build relationships, network, learn, take action and have fun in the greater Seattle area. Our community has grown a lot in the last 2+ years, and we now organize independently of the global WAC City Lead program. Sign up for our Seattle community newsletter here.
