Finding Hope in Community: A Guided Poetry & Collage Workshop
Join us for a 2-hour experience that blends visual meditation, poetic writing, and collage-making. Hosted by writer and poet @misswordpower, this experience is designed to help participants explore hope as more than a feeling – hope as protest, hope as perseverance, and hope as a way to connect and engage with the community.
This is a beginner-friendly workshop for anyone interested in poetry, writing, or visual media.
We begin with introductions and a freewrite activity where we’ll use prompts to help generate ideas.
Then, through a collage scavenger hunt, we’ll collect words and images that speak to personal joy, hope, perseverance, protest, and creative vision.
Each participant will assemble a visual poem from their collage pieces—a protest sign, a love letter, a lifeboat.
We’ll come together to build a community collage. Each person contributes one or two visuals or words from their collection, and as the piece grows, we’ll pause to ask: What story is emerging here? What does hope look like collectively, not just individually?
We close with optional sharing and reflection.
All proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to support Palestinian families in Gaza.
Queens Book Bazaar is a pop-up bookshop offering a third space sanctuary in Queens. Inspired by our South Asian heritage, this space will offer books by South Asian and BIPOC authors, provide opportunity to meet new people, and engage in thoughtful discussions about the stories that have impacted us. We’re still in the early stages of creating this space, so follow along to learn about upcoming events, book clubs, and workshops!
