The Open Spoon
The Open Spoon is a community gathering every full moon to celebrate a potluck of local food, stories, and nature. Bring a story, bring food, or just bring your positive energy - everyone is welcome.
March traditionally marked the passage from winter to spring, as evidenced by the maple sap beginning to flow, and this spirit of looking towards sweetness is inspiration for this month's themes.
STORY THEME: Hope
Bring a 3-5 minute story, poem, or song about a specific time in your life that you felt hope.
FOOD THEME: Sweetness
This month, we are honoring the sweetness that is stimulated by the cold and nourishes us at the threshold of spring. This is most commonly recognized in the flowing Maple sap, but we also see it in overwintered greens that convert starches into sugar as a defense mechanism to the cold. The results are sweeter greens that emerge after the winter chill. In honor of these greens, Zoe will be making a spinach pie, and you are invited to bring any other greens or winter-sweetness inspired dishes to share.
Please also feel free to share a story about the dish or ingredient you brought.
Drinks: Hot water and tea bags will be provided as a moon brew, and you're welcome to bring other tea or drinks if you want.
Attendance is free but in the spirit of cultivating a mindset of reciprocity, we encourage everyone to bring something to the table, whether it is a story, food, helping clean up after, a monetary donation, or your kind supportive energy to show interest in others and help make everyone feel welcomed and appreciated.
