The Writing Room
Commit to spending this hour with your creative voice.
There's no pressure to create something magnificent. The purpose is to spend time with your inner voice, and get curious about what’s alive inside of you.
Though this session centers on writing, it's really an hour for nurturing anyone with a creative practice. All are welcome, no matter the medium of preference or level of experience.
The structure:
I will provide a simple prompt and offer a brief guided meditation. We will write for 20 minutes straight, by hand, followed by community discussion.
Set the scene:
I'll send a playlist you have the option to put on.
I suggest using an expensive pen and cheap paper, but use whatever is at your disposal.
Light a candle, brew some tea, wear the fuzzy socks or silky robe, whatever makes this feel a bit indulgent.
On Resistance:
There's a famous quote from the American poet, Robert Hass. "It's hell writing and it's hell not writing. The only tolerable state is having just written."
Unfortunately, it feels true most of the time. We are in this space to make writing a pleasurable experience; to carve out a creative space we want to come back to again and again.
Either way, we'll get you to the other side, to having just written.
Please arrive promptly if you plan to attend.
