About Event

Safety architectures are mostly designed around a single user asking a model for something it should refuse. Antonia Juelich's fieldwork describes a different adversary: an organization with dedicated AI units, subscriptions held across several providers, and outside trainers on call to advise on phrasing when a request is blocked.

Join us for Session 42 of the AI Governance Club where we'll discuss:

"God has helped us, and so will AI": How the Terrorist Group Boko Haram Uses Frontier AI

by Juelich, A. (2026)

Session format: presentation & open moderated discussion
Presenter: Mariana Hungria

Mariana Hungria is a linguist and independent researcher working at the intersection of linguistics, AI safety, and AI governance. She holds a BA/MS in Linguistics, has 20 years of experience in translation and language services, and previously founded and led a tech startup. Much of her recent work has gone into building the field's foundations in the Portuguese-speaking world, including leading the linguistic direction of a 7-million-word translation project covering core AI safety, AI governance, and effective altruism literature. She is Head of Language Services and a field builder at CEGIA and co-organizes and moderates the AI Governance Club.
