Mythic Voices: Ressurecting Ancient Wisdom

​TL;DR: This course is your chance to tell and hear stories that are as old as humanity itself. We will try to live in the world these myths create and investigate what meaning generations of people have found in them.

What is it about some stories that people keep retelling them over and over again? Generations of heros have lived in the shadow of Troy. Countless lost seekers have seen their pain reflected in the journey of Gilgamesh. Sinners throughout the western world have repented for the sins of Adam and Eve. Every Monarch of England has beed deemed legitimate for a sword pulled from a stone.

The goal of these ten sessions will be to live, for a minute, in the world that these stories have built, and see if there isn't something worth salvaging from the rubbles of our mythical patrimony.

Each session will have a theme, and participants will bring mythical stories on that theme. After listening to a few of these stories, we will dive into discussions, comparing and contrasting these stories and interrogating what role they have played in their societies.

The themes we will explore are the following:
1. Myths of creation of the universe
2. Myths of creation of human beings
3. The Great Goddesses
4. Mythic Heros
5. Trickesters
6. Sacred Places
7. Myths of Nations

We will close out the session with an epic movie screening!
