Impressions: Cyanotype Creative Process
What can we learn from an impression—the way impact unfurls, the way time and light works on an intention?
Join us for this emergent morning to tend to creativity, connection with the natural world, and soaking in the light available to us.
Through a facilitated process that combines small-group dialogue, open-ended art-making with cyanotype (brief how to included), and reflective writing, we will explore creativity as a practice of meaning-making, connection, and care.
No art experience is required to fully participate.
Warm drinks (think: coffee + tea) will be available, so BYO canteen — come explore, create, and connect with us!
Cyanotype’s main tools required are the sun & time. In this workshop we’ll use natural elements and objects over a pre-treated paper to create prints/solar exposures, resulting in white & blue print. No two the same, all making an impression of the environmental conditions (UV strength, wind, bugs that may crawl or land on the paper, shadows of peers, clouds, etc) and the individual hand of the botanical arrangement.
Sustain Studio is a creative facilitation and intentional convening hub tending ways of being that sustain life.
Lauren Gardner is a designer and visual artist who through primarily cyanotype and soft sculpture plays with local plantings, capturing sound and light as she represents the connections and inspiration we develop from their presence and the stories each botanical can tell. Lauren uses cyanotype as a way to catalog memory, connecting both a natural element to a moment in time, capturing shadows, motions and conditions of the elements.
