

Brain Foundation Models: Building the Operating System for Neurotech

Brain foundation models are emerging as a new approach to neural decoding. Instead of building separate models for individual datasets, devices, or tasks, foundation models learn general representations of brain activity that can be adapted across people and applications. EEG is becoming an important testing ground for this idea, with large-scale models increasingly being trained across heterogeneous EEG-derived neural datasets.
This panel brings together perspectives across industry to unpack how to build workable brain foundation models, what it takes for foundation models to become a shared intelligence layer for neurotechnology, and how they could change the way neural data is used across clinical, consumer, and BCI applications.
Joining the discussion are Dan Furman from Arctop and Dimitris Sakellariou from Piramidal. Arctop develops EEG decoding software that translates neural signals into measures of cognitive state and intent. Piramidal is developing foundation models trained on EEG, with an initial focus on interpreting brain activity in clinical settings.
