About Event

Can we experience an economy before we try to explain it?

Across Indonesia, people are experimenting with ways to build businesses and livelihoods while protecting and regenerating the landscapes they depend on. Behind these efforts are stories of people, places, products, relationships—and difficult choices about how we value nature and where resources flow.

At Taste the Economy, we invite you to experience some of these questions differently.

Over an afternoon of seeing, listening, touching, smelling and tasting, we will bring Indonesia’s emerging Responsible Bioeconomy into the room. Through stories from people doing the work, objects and products from different landscapes, sounds and sensory encounters, light Indonesian bites, and conversations around the table, we’ll explore the often invisible connections between nature, people and economic value.

There will be no long presentations and no conventional panel. Instead, expect an intimate and participatory conversation among resource holders, intermediaries and doers—sharing what is already happening, what remains difficult, and what we might experiment with together.

We’ll ask: What would it take for protecting and regenerating nature to also create viable businesses and livelihoods? How might value and resources flow differently? And what role could each of us play?

Come with your senses open. Bring your curiosity, your experience and your questions.

The tasting is only the beginning. What matters is what we see differently, who we connect with, and what we choose to explore together afterwards.
