Strengthening NGO Data Protection in Ghana: Tech4Dev Project Launch Webinar
INTRODUCTION
EITSEC Technologies Ltd, through its newly launched Tech4Dev Project, is organising a webinar and official launch event aimed at supporting non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and civil society organisations to strengthen their data protection and compliance practices.
Many NGOs routinely collect and process personal data in the course of their work. This often includes beneficiary information, staff records, donor details, photographs, identification documents, and other forms of sensitive community data. However, limited legal awareness, weak governance frameworks, inadequate documentation, and insufficient security controls can expose organisations to compliance risks, data breaches, reputational harm, and potential regulatory sanctions.
This webinar, which also marks the official launch of the Tech4Dev Project, will provide practical guidance on compliance with Ghana’s Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843). The session will introduce participants to key data protection principles, statutory obligations for organisations handling personal data, practical risk management approaches, and effective incident response processes tailored to the operational realities of NGOs.
We are also honoured to have Mr. Emmanuel Gadasu, President of the Data Protection Association of Ghana , a data protection expert with over 10 years of experience in data protection and privacy, as the Special Guest Speaker for this event. He will share practical insights on data protection compliance, responsible data governance, and the importance of safeguarding personal information within NGOs and development organisations.
The event will also include a brief introduction to the Tech4Dev Project, highlighting how the initiative will support NGOs and development organisations with affordable IT services, digital governance support, data protection advisory, and capacity-building programmes aimed at strengthening responsible technology adoption.
