Sunday Morning Relational D&D Intro Session (Austin only)
Important: This intro event is online but our regular gameplay will be in South Austin (Westgate).
This game is an experiment to combine two things I love: the role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons and making deep connections. If you like D&D or are curious (maybe after watching Stranger Things), AND want to make new friends playing a game and working TOGETHER, this may be exactly what you're been looking for!

Why am I hosting? I've gone to a couple D&D games and have been disappointed in how the players interact with each other; they seem to just bury themselves in the rules and not even make a real connection. As an Authentic Relating facilitator, as well as a big fan of psychodrama, I'm curious to see if we can create something unique and SUPER FUN for people who might be intimidated or bored with typical games.
Especially great for anyone if you want to:
grow social and communication skills
gain leadership skills
practice teamwork and conflict resolution
play D&D with people AND their characters.
I am not a therapist. However I am designing this to be therapeutic. I will work with you to create a character and design play so that you can achieve whatever goal you want.
The game itself
We will be playing D&D 5e with the 2024 rules in the Forgotten Realms setting. If you don't know what this means, DO NOT WORRY. This is by far the most popular RPG (role playing game) and so there are tons of videos if you want to learn before we start.
Each game will have 4-6 players (plus me as the DM). Any more than that, the team tends to drift apart. I hope to have backups if someone can't make it during one of the weeks.
Because it's new, this campaign will be absolutely free (aside from any physical costs such as dice, which should be minimal).
Logistics
When we get into the play itself, I suspect each game will run from 11am-3pm on Sundays.
My plan is run this campaign for around 8 weeks (plus session 0 makes 9 weeks total) but will see how it goes.
If you ever can't make it, the campaign will be flexible with people coming in and out. However, the real joy of the game is to create a team who help each other out. Please let me know if you only want to play periodically, and we will find something that works.
Before the game - Q&A
On Sunday the 24th from 10-12am, I'll be on Zoom to talk about the game and answer any questions. If you are even a little curious, please come and ask anything you want; I will stay on the call until all questions are answered. It will be recorded and posted
After this session, I will ask who is interested in playing for this campaign.
Session 0
I'm planning our first in-person session on Sunday Feb 8th. In this session we will create characters and discuss what each person would like to get out of the campaign.

I think the campaign I'm planning will be around 8 sessions. We will probably break for SXSW and any other dates that most people find difficult to make.

In Conclusion
This is the first time I'll be DMing for many years, so we will all be learning together. I'm looking forward to growing and having fun together!
