We know that rising electricity rates and bills can make electrification less attractive—or even unaffordable—for many households and businesses. This webinar series has explored how Citizens' Climate Lobby members and other advocates can engage state Public Utility Commissions (PUCs), legislatures, and utilities to advance policies and business models that reduce costs while building a cleaner, more resilient electric system.
For the July 13th webinar, we'll break out our crystal balls to look beyond today's challenges and explore the Future of the Electric Grid. Electricity demand is growing rapidly, driven by electrification, manufacturing, AI, transportation, and economic development. Meeting these needs will require an electric system that is more affordable, reliable, resilient, flexible, and increasingly interconnected. We'll explore questions such as:
What will the future electricity generation mix look like?
How will Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) reshape the grid?
What role will behind-the-meter solar, batteries, and electric vehicles play?
How are utility business models evolving?
What structural and regulatory changes are being debated?
How can innovation help improve affordability while maintaining reliability
We're also excited to welcome a guest speaker from the Alabama Mobility and Power (AMP) Center at the University of Alabama. The AMP Center is helping advance a systems approach that integrates mobility, battery technologies, advanced manufacturing, workforce development, charging infrastructure, and electric power systems. Their perspective illustrates how transportation, energy, industry, and workforce development are increasingly becoming part of one connected ecosystem—and what that means for the future electric grid.
Together, we'll look beyond today's grid to the Grid of Tomorrow and explore how utilities, manufacturers, communities, and consumers are adapting to meet growing demand for electricity that is more affordable, cleaner, more reliable, flexible, and resilient. We'll also discuss emerging opportunities around battery reuse, grid-connected vehicles, distributed storage, and the growing convergence of the transportation and electric power sectors.
