Conscious AI Meetup: From AI to Minds

​We would like to welcome you to another event of the Salon of the California Institute of Machine Consciousness!

​When Marvin Minsky, Alonzo Church and their friends started Artificial Intelligence, they already pursued the goal of building minds that would exceed human capabilities on all dimensions. This idea has always been contested, from far afield ("minds are primary and cannot emerge from mechanical physics", "thinking and minds require biology", "hard problem of consciousness") as well as from within the cognitive science/AI departments themselves ("symbol grounding problem", anti-representationalism, enactivism).

​Let us discuss the core of the AI idea, its distinction from cybernetics, which of its parts are realized in today's machine learning systems, and what might be missing.
