About the speaker:
Leo Chen is a seasoned robotics engineer and technical leader with a career spanning over two decades in developing and deploying real-world robotic systems. Currently, he serves as the Director of US Operations at Engineered Arts Ltd, where he spearheads the company’s expansion into the United States, establishing headquarters operations and research & development initiatives.
Prior to his role at Engineered Arts, Leo was the Director of Electrical Engineering and later a Technical Advisor at Verdant Robotics. In this capacity, he led the electrical engineering team in building advanced agricultural robots aimed at assisting farmers in cultivating specialty crops sustainably and profitably. His leadership was instrumental in securing a $46.5 million Series A funding round for the company.
Leo’s experience also includes his tenure at Loon, a subsidiary of Alphabet’s X, where he managed balloon-launching robots and oversaw vendor management. His work contributed to the development of high-altitude platforms designed to provide internet connectivity to remote areas.
Earlier in his career, Leo held engineering positions at Lioness Health, where he designed biometric testing rigs and developed firmware and drivers for data collection. At Google, he worked on an unannounced internet access project before transitioning to Google X. He also served as an Applications Engineer at Linear Technology, leading the Linduino project to showcase the company’s products and capabilities.
Leo holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) from the University of California, Berkeley.
