Catalyzing Action on Groundwater and Climate Change: The Joint Statement for Global Groundwater Resilience
Hosted by EDF, IUCN, IWMI, AGWA, and UNESCO | Water for Climate Pavilion, Blue Zone | COP31
The dual challenges of too little and too much water are among the biggest impacts of climate change. One major source of water — groundwater — underpins climate resilience, food security, ecosystem health, and economic development. But groundwater aquifers are declining rapidly across the world, and groundwater remains one of the most overlooked resources in global climate, water, and development agendas.
As momentum grows from COP31 and on to the 2026 UN Water Conference, a critical question remains: how do we turn increased attention to groundwater into sustained, coordinated action?
Join Environmental Defense Fund (EDF), International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN), International Water Management Institute (IWMI), Alliance for Global Water Adaption (AGWA), and UNESCO during COP31 at the Water for Climate Pavilion to learn more about the Joint Statement on Global Groundwater Resilience and our ambitions to catalyze action and investment to reverse the groundwater crisis.
