About Event

Amsterdam! Join us for a local edition of Sporesight School of Rot - Decomposition Day. Together we will learn from fungi, nature’s hero decomposers, how to end things well.

Decomposition Day is an invitation to practise endings differently: not as failure, waste or collapse, but as the oldest method we have for returning value to ourselves, our work, and the living world we're part of.

For many of us, endings feel like failure, and letting go feels like loss. For others, endings feel like something happening to us: collapse arriving at speed while we brace for uncertain futures. Both come from the same disconnection: we've never learned to end things well.

What to expect:

Learning club with good people. Go slow in nature, take a beat and re-orient. A walk in the forest to meet decay, mycelium and mushrooms. Embody a mushroom in meditation. A cathartic rot ritual to cast away what isn’t serving, making space for renewal (the dark side of rot ;) Mushroom snacks.

We’ll learn a new method:

Rot to Regenerate → Design through Decomposition. A learning session from our fungal teachers, the Turkey Tail, Shaggy Ink Cap and Stinkhorn, on the light side of rot: how to break down what isn’t serving, to feed what you’d like to grow. Play with mycelium materials, decompose something extractive (a thing we all love to hate ;) and ask: what remains, what rots?

You'll leave with a practice you can apply to your work, to free up resources like budget, time and energy.

You’ll acquire sporesight, the capacity to see what needs to rot, let it go well and grow what regenerates from the parts.

Who is this for? Anyone feeling the limits of business-as-usual. Ex-corporate witches, Solarpunks, Designers, Futurists, Strategists, Sustainability leads, Creatives, Educators, World-builders, techno-solutionists who see nature's intelligence as the ultimate technology. You share an intuition that the dominant model of growth is doing harm, and you're ready for some fresh fun(gi) thinking.

You’ll ease away with rot reframed as transformation. A method to practise on Monday. A connection to others doing this work. And a mycelial gift to compost in your home 🍄‍🟫

Come and get your mushroom eyes on with us!

We're in Amsterdam for this one day only :)

Yours in spores,

Jess, Sporesight Foundress

We're often asked:

  • Is this for me? Yes! If the extractive status quo is wearing you down and you want a way to let go, with a group of folks ready to rot. If you're curious about regenerative futures and don't know where to start. If you've got something that needs to end.

  • No fungi knowledge required. Just an open mind.

  • What to bring? Light picnic lunch. Notebook, pen, camera, walking shoes, waterproofs. Something you’re willing to let go of (a habit, process, mindset or thing). No laptops.

  • Is this day accessible? The location is a natural landscape and requires walking (we are designing a walk-free version for Spring '27!)

  • Do we design custom experiences? Absolutely! Every team and business is unique. Let us know what you need, and we'll work with you to shape a plan that fits your goals and budget. Our most recent experience was with London Borough of Waltham Forest Green Party.

  • Can I get a refund? Sure, we can issue a refund if cancelled at least 72 hours in advance.

  • Why am I paying for this? Full transparency: ticket sales do not cover costs, but they do help us to ease the financial load of hosting this event (materials, venue hire, travel, and all the work that has gone into developing the work).

  • Sporesight is a social enterprise, so what profits we do make goes back into the mission.
