Book Club: Cleopatra and Frankenstein
What makes someone family? And how do the relationships we choose shape who we become? Published in 2022, Cleopatra and Frankenstein by Coco Mellors follows Cleo, a young British artist living in New York City, and Frank, a wealthy advertising executive twenty years her senior, whose whirlwind romance leads to an impulsive marriage. Told through the perspectives of their interconnected circle of friends and loved ones, the novel explores love, marriage, friendship, addiction, and the complicated search for belonging.
Join Lit Club NYC for a special Book Club Friendsgiving in a beautiful, sun-filled SoHo loft as part of our November exploration of Chosen Family. Over pies, light bites and conversation, we'll consider the novel's questions about love and belonging: What makes someone family beyond marriage or blood? How do our friendships shape our identities and relationships? And what does it really mean to choose someone, even when loving them is complicated?
Come ready for thoughtful discussion, meaningful connection, and a cozy Sunday afternoon celebrating books and community!
