Amsterdam Below the Surface
Life Under the Surface: Plastic Pollution in Amsterdam's Canals
Amsterdam's canals are iconic. They're also carrying far more than boats.
Every year, plastic waste and other debris make their way through the city's waterways, impacting ecosystems, biodiversity, and ultimately our own environment. Yet most of this pollution remains hidden beneath the surface.
On June 19, inspired by World Oceans Day, join us for an evening exploring the challenge of plastic pollution in Amsterdam's canals and the innovative solutions being developed to address it.
Together with the Plastic Soup Foundation, The Great Bubble Barrier, Oceanovation, and Impact Hub Amsterdam, we'll bring together experts, innovators, and community members for an interactive evening of learning and discussion.
What to expect
Keynote talks from Maria Westerbos and Carla Wessels
Demo on how plastic and waste move through Amsterdam's waterways
Interactive small-group discussions on practical solutions and opportunities for action
A chance to connect with others working toward a cleaner and more resilient city
After the program, we'll continue the conversation over a community dinner at De Sering.
Whether you're passionate about sustainability, curious about urban waterways, or looking to meet others driving environmental change, this event is for you.
