Circle: the Good Girl archetype
If I said that the “good girl” theme is simply close to me, I’d be lying. The good girl has been (and to some extent still is) a big part of my identity. Good girls are—well—good. We sit quietly in the corner and read. We do our schoolwork. We dream of universities that will secure us good, proper jobs. We dream of titles we’ll achieve on corporate ladders. We dream—of peace. Of waters that are never disturbed. Of relationships where we do everything to keep them from cracking. We don’t set boundaries until they explode out of us with full force. We don’t say no, because we can only be “good” if we squeeze ourselves into exactly the frame someone else prepared for us.
There are countless frames for women. From what our bodies should look like (“don’t neglect yourself, but don’t be too much”), to how we should behave (“smile a little, why do you look so serious” and “why are you so angry now” when you set a boundary), to how we should feel (“hasn’t she gotten over it yet”), to how we should have sex (“be lustful, but only for one man and only when it suits him”), to… the list never ends.
Everything is defined. How we run businesses, what our relationships look like, who we are in relationships with… I could write about this endlessly (and I do write about it here; there will probably be a new post on this topic later this week).
Good = being okay. Good = being worthy. Good = being exactly what someone else needs me to be. And that way I ensure I’m accepted. Loved. That I belong.
On Friday evening, May 29th, we will explore the archetype of the good girl, which is so deeply present. I haven’t yet met a woman who hasn’t been touched by it on some level. We’ll look at where we find ourselves in this archetype, when we “fall into” it, how it shows up in our personal stories, and how to move beyond it. As always, through breath, guided meditation, movement, and connecting with the body.
A circle is medicine for the female soul. There we are heard, seen, and completely accepted. Welcome.
What you need is a computer/phone with a camera (yes, cameras on), a cosy space, 90 minutes of peace, and something to write.
