About Event

Letter writing is a lost art. We have phones now, and group threads, and emojis to do the work that sentences used to do.

What are you doing Tuesday?

Join us for a candlelit evening on vintage typewriters. The theme is love.

What this is

A small group of people, each at a typewriter, spending a couple of hours writing whatever they want to write.

The theme gives the night a shared direction: love, in whatever sense lands for you. A note to a partner, to yourself, or to someone you haven't talked to in a year. Or write a reflection on what love has meant at different points in your life. There's no single right interpretation. Whatever you write stays private unless you want to share it.

I'll lead a few short warm-ups to get everyone comfortable using their typewriter and get past the blank page, then the main writing stretch is yours.

Come solo, with friends, or with a partner.

Here's how the night works:

  • 8:00 - Arrive. Quick intro to the machines for anyone who hasn't used one before.

  • 8:15 - A few short warm-up pieces. I'll walk you through some helpful moves and pathways into the writing.

  • 8:45 - Short break.

  • 9:00 - The main event. One long stretch of writing. The candles are lit and you do what you need to do.

Come solo, with friends, or bring your partner

If you come with a partner, you can sit across from each other and write to each other, or sit together and write separately—your call. If you come on your own, you'll be in good company.

What you should know

No special experience needed. The warm-ups give you all you need to get started.

No sharing required. Whatever you write goes home with you. There's no "let's go around the circle" at the end.

The typewriters do most of the work for you. They're beautiful machines from the 1950s and 60s.

Drinks are available at Fortune Teller. Food trucks are parked right outside.

Parking. Free lot on the property.

You don't have to bring anything special. Machines, paper, and prompts are provided. If a small photo or old letter would help you think about who you're writing to, feel free to bring whatever inspires you.

Capacity

There's a limited number of seats available. RSVP early if you'd like to come.
