Design Language

​A partnership between two veteran designers; Amin; specializing in leather & denim for 12 years, and Paul Kaufman; a legendary shoemaker who introduced the iconic brand, Dr. Martens, to the United States in 1980.

​Their exhibit will provide guests with unique ability to step into the shoes of a designer! Viewers will be welcomed to customize 3 silhouettes Amin and Paul designed together; Jeans, Jackets, & Boots.

​Design Language, opening September 4th 2025, dives into the duos’ untraditional journeys as designers. Illustrating how the common thread of design transcends age, race, religion, geography, and language. We explore their unique perspectives through the conventions Amin and Paul use to speak about ‘land’. Paul, naming his footwear silhouettes after street classifications (Freeway, Crosswalk, Junction, Alley, Intersection), while Amin names the colourways after nature (Clay, Coal, Sky, Sage, Sand, Slate).
