Overshoot: What's the climate strategy above 1.5°C?
The world missed its goal for tackling climate change. What happens next?
Overshooting 1.5C creates profound challenges, including what a new goal should be (if any at all), how to suck carbon from the atmosphere in a responsible way, and what can be done to mitigate catastrophic risks. How should the climate movement respond to these challenges? Join the Strategic Climate Risks Initiative to explore how climate strategy should evolve as the world sails into the dangerous and uncharted waters of overshoot.
Moderated by SCRI’s own Executive Director Laurie Laybourn, we’ll hear the perspectives of an expert panel on what this new reality means for climate action, and where we go from here. We’re delighted to be joined by:
Baroness Worthington, Crossbench Peer in the UK House of Lords; and
Clara Botto, Director of Outreach at the Alliance for Just Deliberation on Solar Geoengineering;
With further expert panellists to be announced soon.
Doors will open at 18:00 with the discussion beginning at 18:30. The event will be followed by a social reception, where drinks and nibbles will be provided.
The audio of this event will be recorded as part of the Overshoot podcast series. Learn more at overshootpod.com
