Portugal's Environmental Future: A Conversation with Luísa Schmidt & Duarte Costa
What heatwaves, droughts, and rising seas mean for our region — and what we can do about it.
🌿 Join us for a conversation about Portugal's environmental future, from heatwaves and droughts to rising sea levels, resilience, and what we can do as citizens and communities.
This session brings together two voices:
Luísa Schmidt — Sociologist and Research Professor at the Instituto de Ciências Sociais da Universidade de Lisboa (ICS-ULisboa), where she coordinates OBSERVA, the Observatory for the Environment, Territory and Society. Author of 20 books on climate policy and environmental sociology, and a regular columnist for Expresso on environment and citizenship.
Duarte Costa — Co-president of Volt Portugal, with an international career in climate risk and decision-making. Holds an MSc in Climate Change and Policy from the University of Sussex and a degree in Geography from Universidade de Lisboa. Frequent climate commentator on SIC and Ambassador for the European Climate Pact.
Together they'll unpack what the coming decades hold for our region, and what practical steps individuals and communities can take.
