Farsi Poetry Workshop: focused on 'Ghorbat'

​Join us for a 2 hour interactive workshop starting with a brief introduction into Persian poetry (structure and meaning) & then reviewing different Farsi poems centred around the theme of GHORBAT (meaning 'displacement'):

• ​We will read the translations and discuss each poet’s perspective based on their life and mindset.

• ​CHOSEN POETS: Ahmad Shamlou, Houshang Ebtehaj, Mahdi Akhavan-sales.

​Participants will receive a copy of the poems and be encouraged to interact with the poetry, and interpret it. We will also cover the historical context of when the poem was written and what it spoke to.

​This workshop will be led by Maedeh Bahari.

​Maedeh is an Iranian-born Farsi teacher and a passionate lover of Persian literature.

​She was born and raised in Iran, where her love for Persian literature began at an early age. At 17, she was honored to receive the Silver Medal in Iran’s National Literature Olympiad. Later, she taught Persian literature to high school students in Iran, and after moving abroad in 2021, she began teaching Farsi to non-Farsi speakers.

​Her deepest passion lies in classical Persian poetry and Sufism, and she loves exploring the rich layers of meaning, symbolism, and spirituality woven into Persian poems.
