Cookies and Cryosleep

​I'm most curious to talk to people who haven't thought much about cryo, but are curious or skeptical. Also, there will be cookies (+ gluten free options) :)

​I've been really curious lately what cryosleep will look like in the far future. In the near term, I can see it clearly as an extension of critical care - so, a way to help someone who is diagnosed with stage IV cancer in their 40s make it to a cure that could given them decades of extra life. We have some experience creating cultural container technology for critical care which could help society integrate this.

​But in the farthest extension, cryosleep is actually a pretty weird and subtle technology to think about. It's very focused on the human body - it's not trying to change you into a different form, inherently - but also removes something that's been core to being human (continuous progression through time). It's dependent on the pace and evolution of other technologies - what will be there when you come out of cryosleep, and what would you want?

​I think that a lot of narratives or pictures of cryo do an okay job portraying how society would react to the technology if it suddenly existed today, but don't show clearly how society might evolve with the technology over time.

​I'm curious to talk to people who don't spend a lot of time thinking about cryo, but are curious about it, what comes up for you - what would you want? What would you not want? What would be exciting, or scary? I'd particularly love to talk to people who are skeptical about it or think it is silly, please feel very welcome to come hang!
