About Event

Join us for the Hawai‘i State Finals of the National Civics Bee, where middle school students from across the state showcase their knowledge of civics and government. Finalists advanced by writing outstanding essays and will now compete in a live quiz-style competition for the chance to represent Hawai‘i at the National Championship in Washington, D.C.

Competition Format:

  • Rounds 1 & 2: Students answer game show–style civics questions live on stage using iPads.

  • Round 3: The top five scorers present their essays to the judges, followed by a Q&A. Judges will then determine the state champion.

Audience Participation: The audience can also play along on their phones during the first two rounds. The top audience scorer will win a prize!

Student Prizes:

  • 1st Place: $1,000 + trip to Washington, D.C. to compete nationally, with the chance to win a $100,000 529 college savings plan contribution

  • 2nd Place: $500

  • 3rd Place: $250

Parking:

  • Please enter through the front school entrance via Kaimuki Avenue/Kapiolani Blvd.

  • The Maps app may direct you to the parking lot off Winam Avenue—please do not park there, as you may be charged.

  • A Chamber staff member will be there to redirect you if needed.

  • The designated parking lot is reserved for National Civics Bee attendees—look for the roundabout entrance with event signage and follow directions from Chamber staff.

  • Please note: Iolani School Fair will be taking place at the same time, with general parking directed to the back field. If the front lot appears full, kindly let the attendant know you are attending the National Civics Bee.

Come cheer on Hawai‘i’s future leaders and celebrate the importance of civic education in our schools and communities!
