Planes ’n’ Sunsets: Our Return to The Thistle
This is your captain speaking… we’re cleared for a golden-hour return to The Thistle Hotel, Heathrow Terminal 5.
Join Wanna Come Plane Spotting on Saturday 25 July from 4.30pm as we head back to one of Heathrow’s best-loved spotting locations for an evening of aircraft, aviation chat, terrace views and hopefully a properly spectacular sunset.
We’ll be taking over the terrace again, with views across the runway and plenty of opportunities to catch departures, heavies, specials and those “did anyone get the reg?” moments as the evening light starts doing its thing.
Expect good company, aviation puns at cruising altitude, sunset skies, and a relaxed summer evening with fellow avgeeks. Whether you’re coming for the A380s, the golden hour shots, the community, or just an excuse to look knowingly at FlightRadar24 every few minutes, you’re very welcome.
How to get there:
Head to Heathrow Terminal 5 and use the pods to get to The Thistle Hotel. When you arrive at the hotel gate, press the buzzer and the hotel team will let you through. Once inside, follow signs for the bar — it’s on the right and up the stairs. You’ll find us out on the terrace.
The hotel is kindly letting us use the space, so please do buy a drink, snack or food from the bar while you’re there. It helps us keep events like this accessible and keeps us firmly on the nice list.
Please bring whatever you need for a summer evening: layers for later, SPF, camera, spare batteries, portable charger, and your best “ooh, that’s a special livery” energy.
As ever, the event is subject to weather conditions — because even we can’t get ATC clearance for the British summer.
